Forester (part-time)
This is a part-time (20 hours/week) position.  In this professional position reporting to the City Forester, you’ll be responsible for urban forest management in an assigned geographic area, helping to develop, implement, and maintain the City’s urban forestry program.  You’ll participate in hazard assessments, needs assessments, contract supervision and interaction with the public on tree-related concerns and requests.  You’ll oversee special projects and events such as the new home tree planting program, Arbor Day, educational symposiums, and related events; conduct inspections on private property that involve condemnations of hazards and insect and disease-related issues; and recommend and evaluate the cultivation of appropriate tree species.  You’ll assess site and cultural conditions, determine planting variations and coordinate planting projects.  Your responsibilities will also include reviewing landscape plans and providing technical advice; overseeing programs which support forest development and care including insect/disease control, pesticide evaluation and related tree health issues; monitoring tree maintenance and planting contracts, ensuring compliance with city standards and regulations; and conducting community outreach programs to communicate program goals/objectives.  You must possess excellent public relations and written/verbal communication skills in order to respond to questions from the general public on the placement of City and individual trees, conduct public presentations and community meetings; and produce technical, quarterly and annual reports for the City Forester and other department staff.


Forestry Technician
Boulder County, Colorado is seeking a Forestry Operations Technician for
its Parks & Open Space department. Position closes Mar.20th, 2008. This
position will serve as lead worker and assist in the supervision of
forest management field operations. Minimum qualifications: two years of
college in forestry or related field, two years experience in forestry or
natural resources management, or any equivalent combination of education and
experience. Preferred qualifications: Class A CDL, significant tree
felling and chain saw experience, forestry heavy equipment aptitude, mechanical
troubleshooting skills, and the desire to work with a highly productive
and detailed oriented team vested in the pursuit of sustainable forestry.

Starting Salary: $2,984/month, including a full benefits package.
